What’s your passion?  How are you pursuing it?

Hi!  My name is Torie Beedle.  My passion is to understand the ‘what, why and how’ of people’s thinking and process for being & help educate people to lead more sustainable, fulfilled and meaningful lives & thus build resilient, sustainable communities & businesses.   You’re probably wondering where did that mouthful come from?  Well, this whole journey started long ago for me, with the questions of ‘who am I? & ‘what is my purpose in this life?’  I have lived a full, colorful life thus far – 7 years in the Marines, 3 yrs working for ExxonMobil, 3 years working with local food & community movements, marriage, cancer, divorce, graduate school, traveling…  However, these two questions were something I always came back to…because I wasn’t sure.  It took me awhile to figure out that the reason was because I was always comparing myself to others.  I didn’t realize it was OK to be something different.  That sparked a new question: Why? & what can I do to help make that different?  These questions became the inspiration for my MBA practicum project at Antioch University New England titled: Opening Minds – A Resilience Process for Sustainability.  In short, in my research I found the systems we live in don’t really support the introspection of these questions, but rather they try to fit people into pre-existing molds to sustain the existing structure.  The problem with this is pretty apparent in our culture today.

  • How many people do you know who hate their job & wish they could do something else?
  • How many people do you know are not pursuing their passion?
  • How many people do you know who don’t even know what they are passionate about?

If people are the foundational building blocks for resilient, sustainable communities & businesses, wouldn’t it make sense to focus on nurturing & supporting sustainable, resilient people?   For me this is people who are living sustainable, fulfilled and meaningful lives.  They know who they are, what they are good at and are pursuing their passions.  I believe everyone should able to pursue his or her passion in one form or another.  Sometimes there are obstacles to this.  Two glaring ones are:

  • People don’t know what they are passionate about & have never been taught how to have that conversation with themselves.
  • People who do know what they are passionate about don’t know how to pursue it or take it to a working level.

This is where Noetic Musings come in.  This site strives to work through these obstacles by:

  • accentuate the connection between education, sustainability, & neuroscience

“Throughout our lives, we all piece together a vision of what happiness and success is.  However, in sculpting a resilient and sustainable life, community or business, that vision needs to emerge from a holistic balance of both external and internal influences.  Pursuing this balance is what sets the stage for embracing change and illuminating a path for resilience and sustainability.” -Torie Beedle, Green MBA
